Saarah Jappie
Saarah Jappie is program officer for the SSRC’s Transregional Collaboratory on the Indian Ocean. Her research explores interdisciplinary approaches to Indian Ocean histories, with a focus on cultural mobility across Southeast Asia and Southern Africa in the aftermath of early-modern slavery and exile. She is an associate member of the Oceanic Humanities for the Global South Initiative, a research associate at the Visual Identities in Art and Design research center at the University of Johannesburg, and a research scholar in Africana Studies at Barnard College.
