Updated 10/2/2020: The submission window for this call for essays is now closed.

The Immanent Frame recently put out a call that invites essays addressing the Covid-19 crisis and its implications in relation to TIF’s thematic focus. Topics may include, but are not limited to, the role of religious ideas, practices, and organizations in responding to the pandemic; changing practices around death, dying, burial, and mourning; understandings of community and isolation or solitude; new technologies for religious worship and sanctuary; anti-Asian racism, antiblackness, and racial justice; corporate response to health emergencies; and digital pedagogy. Read TIF’s other Covid-19 related content here.

Scholars of any academic discipline and methodological orientation are invited to submit 1000-2000 word essays for consideration through this online form. Applicants are requested to articulate alongside their submission 1) the main question the essay addresses and 2) the significance of the question to the academic study and public understanding of secularism and/or religion. Only essays submitted through the online platform will be considered.

This call for essays affirms TIF’s commitment to timely public debates concerning secularism and religion. Essays that foreground questions that have not received significant coverage on TIF or that suggest innovative approaches to enduring questions in the social sciences and/or the humanities will be considered favorably. TIF seeks submissions from a diverse pool of potential contributors, including with regard to the institutional affiliation, rank, and research expertise of the applicant.

The deadline for submissions is October 1, 2020. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The TIF Editor will liaise with applicants whose essays are selected.
