The Power of Religion in the Public Sphere

rethinkingsecularismOn October 22 the Institute for Public Knowledge at NYU, in concert with the SSRC and the Humanities Institute at Stony Brook University, will host “Rethinking Secularism: The Power of Religion in the Public Sphere,” a symposium featuring Judith Butler, Jürgen Habermas, Charles Taylor, and Cornel West.

The conference will begin at 3pm in the Great Hall at Cooper Union. You can RSVP here, but please note that seating is not guaranteed and it is recommended that you arrive early for this event.

Charles Gelman is a contributing editor of The Immanent Frame and an associate editor of Frequencies. A former program assistant at the Social Science Research Council, he is currently a doctoral student in comparative literature at New York University. He earned his B.A. from the Gallatin School, NYU, in 2009.
