The SSRC is an independent, international, nonprofit organization. It fosters innovative research, nurtures new generations of social scientists, deepens how inquiry is practiced within and across disciplines, and mobilizes necessary knowledge on important public issues.
Wes Markofski is assistant professor of sociology at Carleton College. Parts of this essay are based on research and arguments made in, “Forum: Studying Religion in the Age of Trump,” “The Public Sociology of Religion,” and his first book, New Monasticism and the Transformation of American Evangelicalism.
