Lorena Núñez Carrasco (PhD, Medical Anthropology, Leiden University) is an interdisciplinary scholar and associate professor in the Department of Sociology, University of the Witwatersrand. Her broader academic interest is on topics that intersect with culture and health in diverse socioeconomic and political contexts. In her research and publications, both in Latin America and Southern Africa, she explores the linkages between migration and health. She is interested in dying and death in the context of migration and displacement in Southern Africa, a topic she is currently researching in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
