The SSRC is an independent, international, nonprofit organization. It fosters innovative research, nurtures new generations of social scientists, deepens how inquiry is practiced within and across disciplines, and mobilizes necessary knowledge on important public issues.
John D. Carlson is Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Associate Director of the Center for the Study of Religion and Conflict at Arizona State University. He is coeditor of, and contributor to, The Sacred and the Sovereign: Religion and International Politics (Georgetown, 2003). His current book project—“Justice This Side of Heaven: Human Nature, Religion, and the Moral Order of Politics”—explores how beliefs about God and human nature shape our understandings of justice.
