Hsiao-Lan Hu

Hsiao-Lan Hu is professor of religious studies and women’s and gender studies at University of Detroit Mercy. Hu teaches broadly in Asian religions, gender issues in world religions, and comparative religious ethics. In This-Worldly Nibbana: A Buddhist-Feminist Social Ethic for Peacemaking in the Global Community (SUNY Press, 2011), Hu undertakes an interdisciplinary study that combines the philosophy and sociology of early Buddhism, socially engaged Buddhism, poststructuralist feminist theories, liberation theology, socioeconomic studies on globalization, and peace Studies. Hu has also published widely on race and gender/sexuality issues in Buddhism, feminist and pluralist pedagogy, and Buddhist-Christian dialogue.
