Focus on the Family preparing to shift gears?

Since stepping down as chairman of Focus on the Family last February, James Dobson’s relationship with the leadership of the advocacy group and parachurch organization that he founded in 1977 has become visibly tenuous, if not tense. Now, reports Talking Points Memo’s Justin Elliot, it appears that Dobson’s growing ostracization suggests a potentially significant shift in Focus on the Family’s politics:

A prominent friend and supporter of James Dobson believes Dobson was pushed aside by the new leadership of Focus on the Family, who want the powerhouse evangelical ministry to project a softer image on issues ranging from abortion to gay marriage to relations with President Obama.
