Thomas A. Lewis is a professor of religious studies and German studies at Cornell University. His scholarship examines transforming conceptions of religion, society, and the individual in Western modernity, as well as method and theory in the study of religion. His scholarship includes Religion, Modernity, and Politics in Hegel (Oxford University Press, 2011); Why Philosophy Matters for the Study of Religion–and Vice Versa (Oxford University Press, 2015), along with numerous articles and book chapters on comparative ethics, the discipline of religious studies, and liberation theology.
