“The Rise of the Islamists”

America Abroad, the award-winning documentary radio program, has recently released a new documentary entitled “The Rise of the Islamists.” Reflecting on the historic background of Islamism as well as current political transitions in the Middle East, the documentary features interviews with locals, experts, and religious leaders from Egypt,  Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Syria on the issue of the rising influence of Islamism in the region’s political systems.

Candice Scharf is a consultant with the SSRC's program on Religion and Public Sphere. She is a Master’s graduate from New York University’s Center for Global Affairs, where she majored in Global Affairs and specialized in International Relations. She has a great interest in religion’s effect on international affairs and completed her Master’s thesis on religion’s effect on Middle Eastern foreign policy.
