January 5, 2012’s episode of “On Being with Krista Tippet” is a conversation with Rosanne Cash, daughter of Johnny Cash, a singer-songwriter and author in her own right. The episode, titled “Rosanne Cash: Time Traveler,” touches upon Cash’s spirituality and what she calls being “Buddhistipalian”:
As the daughter of Johnny Cash, singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash describes her life as one “circumscribed by music.” But, it’s through her love of language and quantum mechanics that she’s finding new sources of creativity and mathematical ways to think about the divine. The mother of five shares her perspectives on being present, Twitter as a “boot camp for songwriters,” and how she wrestles with love and grief through her music.
The show was recorded at the Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis and includes several live songs performed by Cash and featuring her husband John Leventhal. Download the episode or read the transcript of the interview here.
