Shaheer Afaqi

Shaheer Afaqi is a PhD candidate in the Department of Religious Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. His dissertation, “An Islamic Theology of Sensory Experience: Al-Ghazali on Musical Pleasure,” explores the medieval prehistory of the debate about music surveyed in this essay, arguing for the emergence of a distinctive new relationship between sound art and devotion.
